1. How many members can an SMSF have?

Up to six members, all of whom must be individual trustees or directors of a corporate trustee.

2. Do I need an accountant or adviser to run an SMSF?

While not legally required, SMSF management involves complex legal and tax requirements. Professional guidance is strongly recommended.

3. Is there a minimum balance to start an SMSF?

We're not able to advise on whether an SMSF is right for you or what balance is appropriate. The right setup depends on your personal circumstances, and we recommend speaking with a licensed financial adviser before making any decisions.

4. What assets can an SMSF invest in?

SMSFs can invest in a range of assets, including shares, property, and in some cases, crypto, but only if the investment complies with superannuation law and the fund's investment strategy.

5. What is the tax treatment of crypto in SMSF?

We're unable to provide tax advice, including how crypto is treated in an SMSF. It's beneficial for you to speak to a tax professional.

6. Can OKX help set up an SMSF?

OKX Australia doesn't set up SMSFs. You can do this through a qualified SMSF administrator, accountant, or legal service. Once your SMSF is established and the bank account is active, you'll be able to onboard with OKX as an SMSF investor.

7. I already have an SMSF with crypto on another exchange. Can I also have one on OKX?

That's no problem. If your SMSF is already set up and active, you're welcome to onboard OKX and transfer assets across, provided that's permitted under your fund's structure.

    • A copy of your SMSF trust deed and ASIC extract

  • Once verified, you'll be able to:

    • Buy & trade crypto within your SMSF account

Note: If you're holding crypto on another exchange, we recommend speaking to your accountant before transferring assets to ensure the move is properly documented and doesn't trigger compliance issues (like related-party transactions or loss of cost-based data).
