Navigating regulatory requirements around the legitimacy of funds is essential to ensure financial transparency, uphold anti-money laundering (AML) standards, and maintain compliance with local and international regulations. As part of our enhanced due diligence (EDD) measures, financial institutions and service providers in the UAE are obligated to verify the origin of funds involved in transactions—especially those of significant value or perceived risk.

This guide outlines the key concepts and the types of documentation typically accepted as evidence when proving the source of funds and source of wealth in the UAE.

What is Source of Funds?

Source of funds refers to the specific origin of the money or assets used in a particular transaction. It explains how and where the funds were generated before being used for a financial activity (for example, investment, deposit, or purchase).

What is Source of Wealth?

Source of wealth refers to the overall origin of an individual’s or entity’s accumulated financial resources. It reflects the broader economic, professional, or business background that led to their current net worth.
