There is a bigger opportunity here than the immediate LIT price reaction. The US derivatives market represents a significant expansion opportunity, particularly as demand for onchain leveraged trading continues to grow.
However, there is an important distinction: Lighter has announced plans to submit applications, not secured CFTC approval.
The review process could take up to 280 days, so meaningful US expansion is not necessarily around the corner.

• Designated Contract Market (DCM): Covers the operation of the derivatives trading venue.
• Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO): Covers the clearing and settlement of derivatives trades.
If successful, these registrations could give Lighter a regulatory pathway to offer its perpetual futures products to US customers, a market that has remained difficult for offshore crypto derivatives platforms to access legally.
