Foresight News reports that the Democratic Party has regained control of both chambers of the U.S. Congress in the midterm elections. According to Fortune magazine, California Congressman Robert Garcia, who will serve as chairman of the House Oversight Committee in the new Congress, stated in a declaration and on X, "Lawyer up." The report states that the Trump family's crypto company, World Liberty Financial (WLFI), may become the first company under investigation. Robert Garcia previously said the committee will focus on investigating "Trump family corruption," including Trump's cryptocurrency business, which Fortune claims has generated over $1 billion in revenue for Trump. With the Democrats controlling the committee, they will have subpoena power to compel the government, private companies, and individuals to provide documents and testimony. The Democrats have previously focused on a deal in which a UAE royal family member, dubbed the "Spy Chief," plans to acquire a $500 million stake in World Liberty Financial in 2025. The company is currently applying for a national bank license that requires approval from a U.S. Treasury Department agency. House Democrats have already requested Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to investigate the transaction. The Democrats also said they will review Trump's pardon of Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, who reportedly assisted the Trump family in launching a stablecoin. Robert Garcia said acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and other government officials may face subpoenas on the first day of the Democratic majority. The report states that corporate donors to the White House banquet hall project and companies with business dealings with the Trump family are also expected to be among the first targets of the investigation, which could begin as early as February 2027. White House spokesperson Lauren Boebert told Newsweek before the election that the Democrats' sole agenda is to continue their decade-long "witch hunt" against Trump.
