By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless indicated otherwise) Cryptocurrencies fell slightly in the past 24 hours, with the broad market CoinDesk 20 (CD20) index dropping 1.4%. Bitcoin (BTC) is little changed around $95,000. These figures are well within recently volatility ranges and come on the back of a strong monthly performance — BTC is on track to rise 15% in April, the most since November. The market has been grappling with growing pessimism surrounding the potential impact of President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs on nearly every country and optimism that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates earlier than expected. Stock prices have rallied over the past week on expectations Trump would lower the tariffs and the continuation of interest-rate cuts, according to Spanish bank Bankinter. “Yet the perspective could turn for the worse from today, applying the logic of the data, because — regardless of tariffs and rate cuts — part of the damage has already been done, chiefly to confidence, which is the market’s foundation,” the bank wrote in a note. Indeed, various major companies, including P&G, UPS, PepsiCo, American Airlines and GM, have lowered or pulled their earnings forecasts. Bankinter pointed out that French first-quarter GDP data released today showed a quarter-on-quarter increase that was entirely inventory-driven, while consumption, investment, and exports are weakening. That bodes poorly for the U.S. figure, set to be released at 8:30 a.m. Some market observers, including Bankinter, suggest it could contract sharply. Bitcoin’s rise so far this year, contrasting with the stock market’s worst 100 days of a presidential administration since 1974, could be further evidence the cryptocurrency is starting to be used as a hedge. As mentioned earlier in the week, Greg Cipolaro, the global head of research at NYDIG, wrote in a note that BTC has been acting “more like the non-sovereign issued store of value that it is.” Bitcoin has decoupled from U.S. equities after the trade war between the U.S. and China escalated and has been seeing bets on it rise. This month, spot bitcoin ETFs posted monthly total net inflows of little over $3 billion according to SoSoValue data, further pointing to a flight to the cryptocurrency space amid the uncertainty. HOUSE has surged more than 900% in the past three weeks, mainly on niche popularity in crypto circles and mentions from well-followed X accounts. The trending memecoin is a satire on the real estate market, where prime locations are priced out for most of the general populace. Holding HOUSE is, jokingly, considered by its cult to be holding actual property even though the token is intrinsically valueless and not backed by any real-world assets. While its momentum and accessibility offer trading opportunities, its volatility, lack of clear fundamentals, and memecoin risks demand caution. Derivatives Positioning Among large-cap assets on Binance, PEPE and ADA hold negative funding APRs of -14.7% and -11.2%, respectively, according to Velo data. In contrast, TON, XLM, and XMR have seen funding APRs spike to 11%, highlighting a clear divergence in speculative positioning across major tokens. In terms of open interest, BSW, DRIFT and PROMPT are among the top gainers, with daily open interest rising by 61%, 58%, and 33%, respectively — signaling idiosyncratic, intraday interest in these assets. ALPACA, a BNB Chain asset, recorded over $55 million in short liquidations in the past 24 hours. That's the largest of any asset, according to CoinGlass data. The surge followed heavy short positioning after Binance’s delisting announcement a week ago, before a 550% price rally triggered widespread liquidations. By James Van Straten (All times ET unless indicated otherwise) Bitcoin (BTC) remains stuck near the $95,000 mark, apparently unfazed by the Canadian election result, which saw the crypto-friendly candidate for prime minister lose his seat. Key macroeconomic data due later this week could serve as a catalyst for bitcoin’s next move, with the standout being Friday’s non-farm payrolls report. In the meantime, the largest cryptocurrency is reaching a series of higher lows and lower highs, forming a symmetrical triangle consolidation pattern. This setup following a strong uptrend typically implies a continuation. A decisive breakout above $95,500 could spark the next leg higher, while a drop below support would indicate a potential reversal. On the technical front, bitcoin's hashrate, which has surged over recent months and is now about 10% away from its record, is beginning to decelerate. A downward difficulty adjustment of more than 5% is anticipated in four days and will provide some much-needed relief to miners, who have been grappling with hashprice levels near five-year lows. The week's macroeconomic data include personal spending and GDP growth figures on Wednesday, though Friday's jobs report takes center stage. Economists forecast a drop in new jobs to 135,000 during April, down from March’s 228,000 figure, which was the strongest in three months. The unemployment rate is projected to have held steady at 4.2%, underscoring a persistently tight labor market. The CME FedWatch Tool currently indicates a 91% probability of the Fed funds rate being held at at 4.25%–4.50% at the May 7 FOMC meeting. Also in the mix, earnings season is heating up, particularly among the “Magnificent Seven” tech stocks. The upgrade improved the way validators exchange data, making the process quicker and smoother to reduce delays and speed up transaction processing. It also added a method allowing validators to receive multiple blocks at once, instead of one by one. The time it takes to create a new block is reduced to about 1.5 seconds and could fall to as low as 0.75 seconds. Faster block times mean transactions are confirmed more quickly, making the network feel snappier for users. The update makes decentralized apps (dapps) like games or financial tools run faster and smoother. Developers can keep building apps the same way because the update doesn’t change how the network works with their code. A faster, more efficient network attracts more users and developers, which can increase demand for BNB and make it more valuable over time. The Point of Control (PoC) remains near $2,200, serving as a major magnet for price action and a critical bullish target. ETH is also approaching the 50-day exponential moving average (EMA), a potential inflection point that may spark volatility. The level is particularly notable because many altcoins have beaten ether to reclaim their 50-day EMAs. Importantly, price action has now broken above the descending trendline stemming from the December 2024 high, a key structural shift favoring bullish momentum. Upside targets include: $2,104 to confirm a higher high $2,200 (PoC), volume-weighted focal point $2,480 (200-day EMA), long-term resistance To maintain its bullish bias, ETH must hold above the lower boundary of the value area (~$1,745), or risk a return to bearish sentiment. By Omkar Godbole (All times ET unless indicated otherwise) Bitcoin's censorship-resistant, decentralized setup empowers individuals by facilitating peer-to-peer transactions without government interference or corporate control. You’ve probably heard that from a Bitcoin maxi many times. It's an idea that resonates even more strongly today in light of reports that President Donald Trump is exploring ways to remove Jerome Powell, the chair of the Federal Reserve, which is the world's most powerful central bank. National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett talked about Trump's intentions Friday and markets responded early Monday by selling the dollar and the U.S. stock futures. The Dollar Index, which tracks the currency's exchange rate against major fiat currencies, slipped to a three-year low of 98.00 while gold touched new highs above $3,400 per ounce. Bitcoin rose past $87,000, confirming a bullish breakout from its recent sideways trading between $83,000 and $86,000 to suggest more gains ahead. The uptick saw gaming, AI and memecoins outshine other sectors of the crypto market, with smaller tokens like ENJ and MAGIC chalking out gains in excess of 50% in 24 hours. MANTRA still tanked 15%. "A weaker dollar could draw renewed attention from American investors, highlighting bitcoin's potential as a hedge against declining dollar value," said Matrixport, a crypto financial services platform. On-chain data warned of heightened volatility as prices potentially near the $90,000 mark. "Cost‑basis clusters show little overhead supply below that range, implying the market could advance quickly before a larger tranche of holders reaches break‑even and begins taking profit," analytics firm IntoTheBlock said in a Telegram post. In other news, Charles Shwab CEO Rick Wurster said the financial services firm is “hopeful and likely to be able” to support spot crypto trading within the next year. Wurster said that more and more clients are seeking information about crypto. Slovenia's Finance Ministry proposed a 25% tax on capital gains on profits from selling cryptocurrencies for fiat or spending tokens for goods and services. The tax is proposed to go into effect from 2026. Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, proposed replacing the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with RISC-V, an open-source instruction set architecture used to develop custom processors for a variety of applications. Buterin said the proposal address one of Ethereum's key scaling bottlenecks by dramatically improving the efficiency and simplicity of smart contract execution. Speaking of Ethereum, it briefly fell behind its chief rival, Solana network in terms of the total staked value of their respective native tokens, ETH and SOL. Uniswap founder Hayden Adam warned that Ethereum could fall behind Solana if it goes back to relying on the layer 1 bockchain instead of the layer-2 scaling products. In macro news, China said it will retaliate against countries that work with U.S. to isolate Beijing in the trade war started by Trump. Stay alert! Early Sunday, VOXEL’s trading volume surged past bitcoin’s 24-hour volume — with the token’s value surging over 300% in a week — despite being only the 723rd-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. An X user claimed six-figure profits from a sub-$100 investment, attributing the surge to a potential bug in Bitget’s market-making robot,. The trade rollback will likely erase these gains. Bitget’s investigation revealed possible market manipulation by certain accounts, prompting the exchange to activate its risk-control system and plan a trade rollback within 24 hours. Affected users who incurred losses will receive compensation, and Bitget is continuing its investigation. The figure represents open interest in all coins listed on Binance, Bybit, OKX, Deribit and Hyperliquid. ETH is the best performing major token in terms of futures open interest growth, followed by BTC and LINK. Speaking of OI-adjusted cumulative volume delta, ETH also leads the pack with the highest positive reading, implying an influx of buying pressure in the market. On Deribit, BTC and ETH risk reversals for short- and near-dated expiries have flattened out, recovering from the recent persistent negative prints that represented bias for protective put options.
