I’ve mentioned this before but it will become more important in coming months. During the rest of 2025, traders should be watching for any indication that the US government will start acquiring BTC. This could happen via legislative action (which is the best route) or other ways. If it does happen, and the acquisition program is very substantial (example: what’s currently proposed in the Bitcoin Act), here’s a quick outline of what I expect: 1. This isn’t on the radar of many asset managers. So it would send a lightning bolt through the professional investment community, with Wall Street analyzing the price implications and institutions grabbing BTC exposure. 2. The derivative positioning that’s been a factor in tamping down volatility and putting a soft ceiling on price would get blown out and contribute to the upside surge. 3. Soon after the US news, multiple nations would probably start similar programs (announced or not) or disclose for the first time that they already own strategic BTC reserves. 4. Within five years of the announcement, it would not be surprising to see BTC trade between $500,000 to $1 million (obviously depending on the details and methods of the acquisition program). More traders should have this on their radar.
