BOB @build_on_bob, short for Build on Bitcoin, is a hybrid Layer 2 protocol that bridges the strong security of Bitcoin with the robust programmability of Ethereum, creating a new paradigm in the BTCfi space.
Built on Optimism's OP Stack, BOB @build_on_bob features complete EVM compatibility and establishes a trust-minimized bridging mechanism with the Bitcoin mainnet through BitVM technology. The project has launched innovative products such as one-click BTC staking and Hybrid Vaults, lowering the entry barrier for users, making it currently the most "user-friendly" mainstream platform for BTC+DeFi.
2. Project Background
BOB @build_on_bob was initiated by BitVM core contributor @alexeiZamyatin, who has years of deep experience in Bitcoin security and cross-chain interoperability. In simple terms, BitVM allows Bitcoin to securely support complex smart contracts and cross-chain DeFi through trust-minimized computation and bridging technology, balancing security and flexibility.
In March 2024, the project completed a $10 million seed round led by Castle Island Ventures, with participation from Coinbase Ventures, Bankless Ventures, IOSG, and other institutions, along with support from angel investors including the founder of Aave. The total amount raised has now exceeded $13 million.
After the mainnet launch in May 2024, BOB quickly integrated key partners such as Babylon, Veda, and Euler, and officially joined the Optimism superchain ecosystem in October, becoming the first hybrid L2 project. The Hybrid BTC product series launched in early 2025 further solidified its leading position in BTC DeFi.
