Is it healthy that blockspace fees are trending to zero over time??? Sort of, let me explain what's happening with this. If you look at cumulative fees spent over the last 7 years or so, its up and to the right. More fees, more volume across all chains. However, within this broader secular trend, the actual fees on each chain have gone down signficantly. Think about EIP1559 for Ethereum L1, then blobs for L2s, then altDA. This also applies to network upgrades like Avalanche had recently. This is an argument for blockspace being relatively commoditized. However, if you analyze the situation a bit deeper you start to realize that there is a power law distribution starting (which will continue). There will be a handful of chains who can and will be able to monetize blockspace where there is real value. There will be thousands and thousands of very cheap, nearly free chains as well imo. Users will be able to interact in a very very seamless/cheap fashion but will pay up for interacting on the "high value chains" in some capacity. We need more blockspace still. Don't let the naysayers fool you. We need way more, it just may not be *that* monetizable.
