A flaw in $XRP Ledger's payment engine could have created spendable XRP beyond its 100B supply cap.
The fix shipped Sept. 25, bypassing the usual amendment process. XRPL Foundation says waiting could have exposed the vulnerability to attackers.
No unauthorized XRP was found. Validators later approved the required upgrade through the normal process.
Security won the race. The governance debate continues.
