Stablecoins Are Becoming Crypto’s Real Financial Rails The most important crypto infrastructure story may not be another chain. It may be the dollar moving on-chain. This week, Paxos-issued $USDG went live natively on Mantle, bringing regulated stablecoin liquidity directly onto the network without relying on third-party bridges. Mantle also joined the Global Dollar Network, which has more than 150 partners and over $3B of USDG circulation. That matters because stablecoins are increasingly moving beyond trading. $USDT still dominates stablecoin business transaction volume, but $USDC is growing rapidly. Data from H1 2026 showed USDC transaction count up more than 200% year over year, while transaction volume more than doubled. Circle reported another important signal. $USDC circulation reached $73.3B at the end of Q2, while on-chain transaction volume reached $14.8T, up 151% year over year. Circle is also connecting USDC to banks, payment providers and institutional financial infrastructure. The bigger shift is clear. Stablecoins are becoming settlement infrastructure. Businesses can move dollars 24/7. Institutions can transfer collateral on-chain. Payment companies can settle across borders without waiting for traditional banking windows. And blockchains can compete based on how efficiently they move this liquidity. That changes how I look at $ETH, $SOL, $MNT, $ARB and $OP. Their value is not only about speculation. It is also about whether they become useful environments for stablecoin liquidity, payments, lending and financial applications. Even major banks are moving in this direction. A consortium of 21 financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and Citi, is planning a dollar stablecoin for 2027.
