What's a passkey?

A passkey is a secure login method that uses your device’s biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, or screen lock) instead of passwords. Pay requires passkeys to ensure fast and secure onboarding.

Why can’t I continue with Pay signup?

If your device’s built-in password manager isn’t installed or activated, the passkey prompt cannot appear—blocking the signup process. This is most common on iPhones without the Passwords app installed or Android devices where Google Password Manager is disabled.

FAQ (iOS version)

Do I need the Apple “Passwords” app?

Yes. iOS uses the Passwords app to manage passkeys. If it’s missing or disabled, Pay can't create a passkey.

How do I check if the Passwords app is installed?

  • Swipe down on the Home Screen > Search for “Passwords”.

  • If it doesn’t appear, head to App Store > search for “Passwords” (by Apple) > download it.

What do I do after installing the Passwords app?

  • Open it once so the system initializes it.

  • Then return to the OKX app and try signup again.

What iOS settings do I need enabled for passkeys?

Make sure these are turned on:

  • Settings > Your Apple ID > iCloud > switch ON Passwords and Keychain

  • Under Settings > Passwords > Password Options, turn on Autofill Passwords and Passkeys and ensure that Passwords is also enabled under the Allow Filling From section.

I have another password manager (1Password, Dashlane, and more). Will it cause problems?

No, but Apple Passwords must remain enabled, even if you use other managers.

I’m not getting the passkey popup when signing up—is something wrong?

If the passkey prompt isn’t appearing, try the following checks:

  • Make sure the Passwords app is installed on your device.

  • Ensure iCloud Keychain is turned ON.

  • Verify that Autofill Passwords & Passkeys is enabled in your settings.

  • Close and reopen the OKX app, or restart your phone to refresh the login flow.

My Face ID isn’t working for passkeys. What should I do?

Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > select Set Up Face ID.Passkeys require a working biometric or passcode.

FAQ (Android version)

What password manager do I need for the Android system?

Pay requires Google Password Manager (part of Google Play Services).

How do I check if Google Password Manager is active?

  • Open Settings > Google > Password Manager

  • Ensure you are signed in with your Google account

  • The manager should open normally

I use Samsung Pass or another password manager. Is that enough?

Not always. For passkeys, Google must be the default Autofill service.

How can I enable Google Password Manager for passkeys?

  • Go to Settings > Autofill service (you can also search for “Autofill”)

  • Select Google as the default service

  • Confirm any prompts

I don’t see the passkey popup when signing up. What should I do?

Try the following:

  • Ensure Google is the default autofill service

  • Update Google Play Services

  • Restart your phone

  • Disable other password managers temporarily

Do I need biometrics enabled?

Yes, passkeys require a screen lock method, which you can set up as below:

  • Settings > Security > Screen Lock

  • Add PIN/pattern/password

  • Then enable Fingerprint or Face Unlock (depending on your device)

How do I troubleshoot my Pay passkey on iOS and Android systems?

  • If no passkey pop-up appears;

    • On the iOS system, install and open the Passwords app plus enabling iCloud Keychain, while on the Android system, set Google as Autofill and update Google Play Services

    • Restart phone

    • Close and reopen OKX app

  • If biometric setup is incomplete;

    • Passkeys require Face ID/Touch ID (iOS) or fingerprint/face unlock (Android) plus a passcode/screen lock.

  • Attempting signup on a different device;

    • Passkeys must be created on the same device where your Apple ID or Google account is logged in.
