About USTankerReturnPlan

US Energy Secretary Wright said Oct 19 that some sanctioned tankers could resume legal operations through acquisition, refurbishment and approvals. Tens to hundreds may return, but cannot carry sanctioned crude; scale and timing are unclear. The US waived some Russia sanctions; diesel talks continue, with Russia citing delivery 15-20 days after signing. Both measures await results. Brent closed down 0.28% at $109.55/bbl. Can added tanker capacity and diesel supply ease energy market pressure?

🚨 Brent crude settled at $109.55 today, down $0.31 or -0.28% after President Trump waived key Russia sanctions under the Graham Act. The waiver, signed Friday, suspended new tariffs and restrictions set to take effect October 18, including measures targeting major buyers of Russian energy. It followed a deal for Russia to supply diesel to the US and global markets. Brent had settled at $109.86 on Friday, its highest close since May, after briefly touching $110. Oil is pulling back on the prospect of additional Russian supply.

.@SecretaryBurgum: We have not lifted any of the sanctions on Russian oil and oil exports. We're putting a carrot out there by saying, 'Hey, if you could put some diesel on the market, that would go sanction free' — and helping American farmers, ranchers, and truckers.

🚨 NO, TRUMP DID NOT GO SOFT ON RUSSIA. HE'S PLAYING CHESS. Diesel is sitting at $6.31, almost $3 higher than a year ago. The Energy Secretary set the record straight on Fox: "We have not lifted any sanctions on Russian oil or Russian oil exports. These are the toughest sanctions Russia's ever faced." The deal is simple. If Russia puts diesel on the world market, that diesel goes sanction free. More supply means lower prices for American farmers, truckers and ranchers. Democrats spent 15 years shutting down refineries and killing drilling, and now they want to lecture us about fuel prices. Trump has all the cards, and he's using them.

The Trump administration is allowing sanctioned oil tankers to undergo a process to start legitimately shipping crude oil, according to US Energy Secretary Chris Wright. He says that “dozens” and perhaps even “hundreds” of tankers could benefit (the later seems an exaggeration).
