One thing I always like is to research a bit more about a team. It doesn't take more than 10-15min of digging, and it can help you get an idea of who you're dealing with (brainlets or gigabrains) Time for a @theblessnetwork team review! Here's what I found out 👇
Believe it or not, the world's shared computer is primarily starting out on Solana, as is custom for most DEPIN plays. Best distribution has always, truth be told, been on Solana, so it makes sense. CTO is Derek, CEO is Butian - the lovely girl from the photo above Dream team.
Derek Anderson has been in crypto since 2014. Before that, he had a brief stint at LG, after which he left for PayPal, did some pretty cool things, and then Walmart, in that order. So clearly, he knows something about scaling infrastructure and distributed compute.
Can find his github full of interesting stuff, such as making custom firmware in his spare time for chinese knockoff retro game consoles (bullish) as well as other stuff. Very neat, especially if you see how he likened adding it to Bless to folding@home (which I also did yday!)
I for one am happy he's making his own thing with Bless, because while I can't speak for Akash (where he previously worked) or other companies, I can definitely say that, as a user, Cosmos is garbo from multiple standpoints. Lovely.
Fun trivia: He helped maintain webOS, the software your LG smart TVs run (which I prefer personally to android TVs..Samsung's are in between for me, hah)
The CEO of @theblessnetwork, @blessbutian, comes from an engineering background from UC Berkeley, but also with experience from Lightspeed and NGC Ventures - as an investor. It's always refreshing to see someone pivot from investor to builder, and see how far they can build.
oh btw, @theblessnetwork used to be called Blockless, which is a great name too, but I suppose that Bless does make more sense - it's cleaner, and it helps people not mix it up with other things (like Bankless, ugh) So good on them for doing so!
One thing that stands out for me in particular is this quote - that there's 5 million regular devices running Bless (probably true? although Chrome Extensions mentions around 700k downloads, I guess most are running multiple nodes) and that it's a super strong network Bullish?
As I was digging up all this history, its important to state that Bless isn't just an afterthought, it was a thing in development well over 2 years ago, as you can see from the TX Labs (building Blockless/Bless) tweets from 2023, and @juntao and @dmikeyanderson being part of it.
Overall, solid team, bit young, bit unproven, but clearly have solid technical knowledge and grit - whether or not the project succeeds is anyone's guess, as it usually is in crypto, but I'd say the odds are fairly solid.
