Ethereum’s roadmap keeps evolving and @VitalikButerin just highlighted a key piece of the puzzle. He pointed to PeerDAS as the core technology for scaling Ethereum. It will be a major feature in the upcoming Fusaka upgrade. Thread: 👇
1/ Before anything else, let’s start with: What is PeerDAS? PeerDAS (Peer Data Availability Sampling) - a technology that allows nodes to verify block data availability without downloading the entire block. Instead, nodes only fetch small fragments and use erasure coding to reconstruct the rest. Vitalik called this approach unique, a breakthrough in how Ethereum handles data.
2/ And the discussion started after @hildobby reported a record 6 blobs per block on Ethereum. Blobs, introduced in Dencun upgrade in 2024, are a new type of data structure introduced through EIP-4844 (Proto-Danksharding) to boost scalability and reduce transaction fees for Layer-2 solutions. Base and World are among the main blob users, together paying ~$200K/week in fees to Ethereum L1.
