July retail sales fell 0.6% month-over-month, marking the first decline in nine months and the sharpest drop in more than a year. Core retail sales also slipped 0.4%. That sounds supportive for a future Fed pivot — but there’s another side to the story. 📊 Inflation is still sticky. July CPI eased to 3.4% YoY from 3.5%, while core CPI remained at 2.5%. Progress? Yes. Enough to declare victory? Not yet. Then there’s consumer confidence. The University of Michigan’s August sentiment reading dropped to 51.0, while one-year inflation expectations climbed to 4.3%.
