Markets are holding their breath heading into today's inflation print, and for once the coins aren't telegraphing a verdict either way. $BTC is trading at $63,796, up a modest 0.39% on the session, while $ETH sits at $1,890, ticking up 0.49%. Neither move reads as conviction — this is a market parked at the curb waiting for a green light, not one accelerating in either direction.
$SOL is the calmest of the three, barely budging at $76.26, up just 0.08%. That kind of stillness usually means traders have already positioned themselves and are simply watching the clock now rather than the charts.
The number everyone's circled is this morning's Consumer Price Index release. Forecasters are penciling in headline inflation cooling to 3.4% annually from June's 3.5%, with the core reading (which strips out food and energy) expected to ease to 2.5% from 2.6%. A softer print would likely reinforce bets that the Fed holds off tightening further; a hotter one could reverse the calm we're seeing in majors right now within minutes of the release.
Gold isn't sitting this one out either — it's up 0.26% to $4,452.70, still carrying a defensive bid even as digital assets tread water. That combination, hard money creeping higher while crypto stays flat rather than rallying alongside it, suggests capital is hedging rather than chasing right now.
Nothing here confirms a breakout in either direction. The setup favors patience over conviction until the print actually lands.
