The trust funds for Social Security and Medicare could be insolvent within 8 years, sooner than previously estimated, according to a new report.
Social Security could run dry by 2033 or 2034 if funds are merged.
Medicare’s hospital insurance fund is also projected to be depleted in 2033.
Without action from Congress, benefits would face automatic cuts of 23% for Social Security and 11% for Medicare.
Treasury Secretary Bessent urged lawmakers to act to preserve both programs.

DOGE just revealed Social Security has been sending checks to dead people—including 3.3 million who'd be over 120 years old if alive.
After 11 weeks of cleanup, DOGE and Social Security marked 12.3 million individuals aged 120+ as deceased.
The breakdown shows millions in each age bracket who've been collecting benefits from beyond the grave.
Department of Government Efficiency:
"Some complex cases remain, such as individuals with 2+ different birth dates on file. These will be investigated in a follow-up effort."
The worst part?
124,170 people supposedly aged 160-169 were still active in the system.
That's older than the verified oldest person who ever lived.
This is what happens when government agencies run on autopilot for decades.
