I am Cige. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, lower than the expected 4.2%, and the previous value was also 4.2%. This data itself is not bad, and can even be said to be slightly better than expected. But the market won't only look at the unemployment rate; the non-farm payrolls are the real focus tonight. The market consensus expects an increase of about 80,000 jobs, with the previous value at 57,000. The unemployment rate dropping from 4.2% to 4.1% indicates the labor market is still tightening, not loosening. The job market remains tight, which actually strengthens the Federal Reserve's confidence to raise interest rates. For BTC, this is considered a somewhat hawkish signal.
What does a 4.1% unemployment rate mean for BTC?
A declining unemployment rate means the economy has not yet entered a recession trajectory; companies are still hiring, and the job market remains tight. This gives the Federal Reserve no reason to cut rates, and certainly won't stop rate hikes. On Thursday, the ISM Manufacturing PMI surged to 55.6, a four-year high. Now with the unemployment rate below expectations, both data points point in the same direction: the U.S. economy remains resilient. The Fed can fully maintain high interest rates or even tighten further. CME data shows the probability of a rate hike in September remains around 54.5%, and after the unemployment rate release, this number is unlikely to decrease.
Non-farm payrolls are the real focus tonight
Now it depends on where the actual new job numbers fall. The unemployment rate has already signaled a hawkish stance, taking the lead.
If new jobs are below 60,000, the data is broadly weak. Combined with the structural contradiction of a falling unemployment rate, the market will first trade on the "economic cooling" logic, the probability of a September rate hike will decline, the dollar will weaken, and BTC will break upward in the short term. A volume breakout above 65,000 and holding there suggests going long,
