About CronosHaltsAfterAttack

On Aug 30, an attacker manipulated low-liquidity TONIC prices and used inflated collateral to borrow from Tectonic. Researchers estimate ~$75M was affected, with ~$6M bridged out, after which Cronos paused block production. Tectonic has not confirmed losses or cause. It follows Moonwell's ~$8.7M collateral-pricing loss and Avici's payment-contract and third-party risks. The cases put low-liquidity collateral, oracle pricing, risk limits and the trade-off of emergency chain halts under scrutiny.

Cronos just hit a pretty serious DeFi incident. Tectonic, one of the biggest lending protocols on Cronos, was exploited after an attacker manipulated the price of its low-liquidity TONIC token. Early estimates put the affected funds at around $75M, and Cronos temporarily halted the network to contain the situation. CRO is also under pressure as the market digests the news. Definitely a reminder that DeFi risks can come from places people don't expect.
