Seen lots of people complaining about ENS names getting registered at much higher prices than they’d sell for on secondary. Why does this happen? - Exposure: names in premium get way more attention since everyone’s hunting for cheap grails going to 0 there - Psychology: with a decreasing premium, buyers fear someone else will scoop it first - Listings: many holders set unrealistic prices or don’t list at all, signaling the name isn’t really for sale Why @ensvision Dutch auctions didn’t have the same effect: - Users could set any reserve price + duration, which resulted in lots of spammy listings with high reserves and short durations - This polluted the feed, giving attractive auctions little visibility - Lack of categories/filters for easier discovery, unlike with names in premium The solution: - @ensvision could launch Dutch auctions without reserve prices and with fixed durations - Add category selection + filters in current categories so auctioned names are easy to find - This would replicate the main advantages of the premium system - Downside: sellers take on more risk, but comes with higher potential reward. It's especially useful if you need to sell asap.
