Great thread about the burning of the 535 Burned DeGods. Also, respect to the clickbait title 💀. Since I'm guessing most people won't read the whole thing (and realize that it's mostly positive) and instead will just quote tweet it with negative commentary, I'll just share the facts here for anyone curious about the truth. Back in the early days of Solana NFTs, most people used to just send NFTs to the "Solana Incinerator Address" or "trash.sol" was another popular one. So in 2021, when we were purchasing the DeGods from the marketplace & burning them, we sent them to 1nc1nerator11111111111111111111111111111111 & shared the transactions to the community as proof. They're actually on our website and we publish all the prices at which we purchased them ( The overall "supply" of the NFT on marketplaces & indexers never actually changed... because they were all sitting in the Incinerator wallet. Solana is unique from EVM & things can actually be burned with a function. We never actually "burned" the NFTs - because for all intents & purposes nobody could actually access any of the NFTs in the incinerator. Also, it is a lot simpler for people to label DeGods a "10K" collection instead of a "9465" supply collection. Today, we learned something new. We noticed that all the DeGods in the wallet were burned via the Solana function for burning. At first, we were like WTF? How can someone even access that wallet... So I immediately messaged one of the smartest builders on Solana that I knew, @armaniferrante, to ask... and he explained that the Incinerator address is specially permissioned to allow *anyone* to trigger a burn on any NFTs inside that address. Here's the specific piece of pull request that references this change: We weren't planning on using the burn function on those NFTs... because almost every DeGod holder is aware of the fact that they are sitting in that incinerator wallet & it's kinda funny to see them in there. But hey, looks like someone burned them officially now, so thank you to whoever that was. đŸ«Ą Anyway, if you got this far - thanks for reading. My unfortunate guess is that there's no way this gets as much reach as the FUD... but I guess that's life.
The blockchain never lies but projects do. As the creator of the @solincinerator we feel the need to provide transparency to the ecosystem. Yes, this is a thread regarding the most recent actions by the @DeGodsNFT team. đŸ§”đŸ‘‡
