Reminiscing moments from SmartCon 2025, @RedoudouM joined leaders from @ERC3643Org, @OpenZeppelin and @lfdecentralized to explore how open standards are shaping institutional adoption in Web3. A few takeaways from the session 🧵

2/ The discussion opened with the idea that shared standards solve collective action problems. Just as ISO 2022 helped the financial industry align on a shared message format, open blockchain standards give institutions a common language to build on.

3/ @RealDennisO, President of @ERC3643Org, explained how it is approved for securities use in more than 23 jurisdictions and highlighted in the SEC Project Crypto Innovation Exemption. ERC3643 integrates with @chainlink for automated compliance, pricing, NAV and on chain identity. It's designed for regulated assets that require specific controls.

4/ @johndneufeld from @OpenZeppelin highlighted that open source infrastructure increases resilience. Their code is public, tested at scale and used across the industry. According to John Neufeld, the top ten RWAs by market cap and eight of the top ten stablecoins use OpenZeppelin implementations for security, modularity and interoperability.

5/ @RedoudouM explained that EEA focuses on translating Ethereum’s technical work into frameworks institutions can understand and apply. He noted that more than 700 members and about 160 L2s collaborate in EEA working groups on topics such as faster finality, faster withdrawals, privacy approaches and liquidity access.

6/ Karen Ottoni emphasized the importance of neutral and open governance - @lfdecentralized supports standards and open source projects such as Trust over IP, Hyperledger and Besu. Besu is used in major institutional projects including Brazil’s DREX initiative, DTCC’s AppChain, Citi Token Services and HSBC’s tokenization work.

7/ There was a shared takeaway - fragmentation will continue as innovation grows, but open standards and open collaboration allow the ecosystem to stay interoperable and enterprise ready.
