Zcash understood this, they found a middle ground where the can tap into cex liquidity and ensure privacy. Nobody attacking zcash privacy layer can prove that it’s not private. They use a bunch of metal gymnastic, zcash not private by default is a feature and far more acceptable to non-criminals who want privacy. Liquidity routes are very important, market caps are also important for security. This is not a zero sum game.
