re i) the whole point of ETH is to create one giant L1 / L2 ecosystem, sharing ~L1 security. Most L2s are already stage 1. One can make a reasonable argument that stage 1 L2s and Solana have overall similar security (link below). What's the outstanding parts for this giant L1 / L2 ecosystem: 1) stage 2 L2s 2) interoperability Number 1 is being worked on, Lighter recently commited to get to stage 2 even this year (personally little bit sceptical if they can pull this off but let's see). Think 2026 we see major stage 1 L2s getting to stage 2. Number 2 to a decent degree shipped with ERC 7683, just needs adoption. Assume during 2026 we will get there. A more comprehensive concept is being worked on with EIL (Ethereum improvement layer). So makes makes sense to only consider ETH as ETH L1 + L2s ;)
some takeaways i) to compete with solana, one must combine hundreds of offchain rollups (none of which are Stage 2) with different state and liquidity ii) if you do an objective analysis per chain, solana is yet again the number 1 destination for new devs, YoY iii) the fact that people call polymarket ethereum but not polygon is diabolical work iv) this implies ICP has more dev activity than Hyperliquid, ill let you assess the quality of that statement by yourself v) I must give props that ethereum has a very good open source culture (which this chart only looks at) vs solana, we need to improve there for sure and we are cooking towards this futardio
