IREN’s AI cloud revenue nearly tripled in Q1 FY2027. Its results highlight a rapid business transition, but also the gap between securing demand and bringing capacity into service.
For the quarter ended Sep 30, 2026:
• Total revenue: $228M, up 66% QoQ
• AI cloud revenue: $200M, up 182% QoQ
• Bitcoin mining revenue: $28M, versus $67M in Q4
• Net loss: $263M
• Adjusted EBITDA: $66M, versus $19M in Q4
AI cloud represented roughly 88% of total revenue, based on the reported figures. Positive adjusted EBITDA and a net loss can coexist, so the measures should not be treated as interchangeable.
AI cloud segment gross margin held at 86%. However, this measure excludes depreciation and amortization and is calculated before site-level costs. It is not an all-in measure of profitability.
The changing revenue mix reflects a deliberate strategy. IREN is reallocating power and data center capacity from Bitcoin mining to AI cloud services. It aims to substantially complete the transition by end-2026, with immaterial mining operations expected to continue through 2027.
Microsoft’s Horizon 1 project entered service. Management says the deployments supporting its more-than-$4B annualized run-rate revenue target are fully contracted and funded.
The schedule has changed, however. The target moved from end-2026 to January 2027 and could extend to late February following a customer-requested design change and supplier timing.
ARR here means annualized run-rate revenue, not revenue already earned or a full-year reported revenue forecast. The timing of commissioning and service delivery therefore matters to the financial outlook.
IREN has secured demand, but the next phase depends on execution. The coming quarters will show how quickly new deployments become revenue-generating services, and whether that growth translates into stronger profitability after the full cost of infrastructure is considered.
