🚨 Metaplanet Sold 10,000 BTC — Then Bought Back 11,000! 👀
Japan’s just revealed a fascinating Q3 Bitcoin strategy.
The company sold 10,000 BTC for roughly $789M, averaging about $78,925 per BTC.
Then came the bigger move:
🔄 11,000 BTC repurchased
💰 Approx. $949M invested
📈 Net gain: +1,000 BTC
That pushed Metaplanet’s Bitcoin treasury to 44,000 BTC, worth roughly $3.8B at the end of September.
But this wasn’t simply a “sell low, buy higher” trade.
Metaplanet says the transaction was designed to prove Bitcoin liquidity — demonstrating that its BTC reserves can be converted into substantial cash when needed to cover financial obligations.
And the strategy is evolving.
The company now plans to keep roughly 85–90% of its assets in Bitcoin, while allowing 10–15% for strategic and income-generating investments. It is also targeting recurring revenue through its Bitcoin income strategy and exploring stronger access to debt and preferred-stock financing.
📊 Another interesting detail: the transaction may create a potential U.S. tax-loss carryforward, with deferred-tax treatment still subject to audit review.
From just 1,762 BTC at the end of 2024 to 44,000 BTC today, Metaplanet is becoming more than a simple BTC accumulator.
It’s building a Bitcoin-centered financial platform around liquidity, financing and recurring income.
