#FedRateDecision #FedRateDecision The Fed held rates at 3.50-3.75% on July 29 — its fifth straight hold. This meeting had no dot plot/SEP (next one's September), so markets are focused entirely on statement language and Warsh's press conference tone rather than new projections. Going in, market pricing was split: roughly 60-66% odds of a hold, but 33-40% odds of a hike — an unusually large probability on a "surprise" outcome by historical standards. The backdrop: oil is up ~20% for July despite easing slightly into the meeting, keeping headline inflation hot, while the labor market has stayed resilient (jobless claims at 1969 lows). Since June's meeting, the Fed's own updated dot plot already flipped hawkish — median 2026 rate projection rose to 3.8% from 3.4% in March, with 9 of 18 officials now penciling in at least one hike this year. Warsh has pledged less forward guidance than prior chairs, so the real signal from today's presser will be whether he leans toward "higher-for-longer" or hints at conditions for future easing — that framing matters more for markets than the hold itself.
