Decentralized storage is competing with a deeply established industry built around centralized cloud providers. Filecoin's proposition is to create a market for storage backed by cryptographic verification rather than relying entirely on conventional trust arrangements. However, available storage capacity is not the same as paying customer demand. Real adoption, retrieval performance, storage costs, and recurring business usage will determine how competitive this model becomes.
