Layer-2 competition is increasingly about more than reducing transaction costs. Optimism’s OP Stack offers infrastructure for building Ethereum-compatible networks, creating opportunities for ecosystem expansion. Yet, more chains do not automatically mean stronger economics. Fragmented liquidity, competition between rollups, and uncertain value capture remain important considerations. The long-term test is whether expanding infrastructure generates durable demand for the ecosystem.
