Market-monitoring reports estimate that the trader lost around $36 million on the three-month position. The closure shows how quickly short-covering can accelerate an already strong move, especially when ZEC is receiving renewed attention from governance upgrades and rising trading activity. However, forced buying does not automatically create lasting fundamental demand. Once shorts have exited, the market needs new spot buyers to support the price. ZEC is now carrying much higher expectations, so volatility and profit-taking risks are elevated. My view is that traders should monitor spot volume and exchange balances rather than assume another squeeze is guaranteed.
