Just learned that an old coworker and founder friend of mine recently took his life.
@eyqshen was gregarious, an extremely hard worker, a great singer and one of the friendliest people I’ve ever met.
He was always the first to jump in and fix server outages at @dYdX, commemorated every inside joke with custom Slack emojis set in hot pink Comic Sans (“darryl loves svelte”, “ok fine i made this emoji just for u”) and even tagged along with me to my first in-person @ETHGlobal hackathon (ETHNewYork 2022) where he contributed a few commits to @0xBlockhead.
After he left for the startup life, we’d run into each other at crypto conferences or grab lunch in NYC, and he’d pitch me on RWAs, tell stories about the fallout of being betrayed by an ex-cofounder, or ask if I could help out with frontend dev.
The last time we made digital contact was just over a year ago. He wished me a happy 24th birthday.
Reminder to self (and anyone who needs to hear it) to call up your old friends and ask them how they’re doing.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of a tragic loss within our company. Earlier this week, we lost our cofounder and dear friend, Eugene. We’re in shock. Eugene was brilliant, deeply curious, and brought so much talent and heart to everything he did. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
The Plume team is grieving and supporting one another right now. We are focused on taking care of ourselves and each other over the next few days. This community was incredibly important to Eugene, and he poured his heart and soul into Plume, our team, and the community. We will deeply miss him and remain committed to ensuring the Plume technology he helped build continues to spur innovation and facilitate life onchain. Thank you for your understanding and your support.
