Why I like Farcaster, prompt by @ljxie: - Built on great long-term identity foundations (Ethereum, ENS) - Doesn't fall into federation/centralization traps that alternatives have - More engagement - More consistent engagement - Smarter engagement - Channels What I don't like: 👇
After a prompt by @ljxie I would like to write a bit about why I personally like @farcaster_xyz Not affiliated at all with them. Not an investor. No hidden deals. So let's go on to the why. - Compared to this platform it seems to have more interesting people and interactions. Here every response except from people I know for years is 99% AI trying to farm engagement for whatever reason. Probably kaito points (which I don't even know what they are). - Mini apps in farcaster are cool. Pretty nice stuff, often with micro transactions involved that can do nice small things. As an example I saw @jchaskin22 use it to create a cute lemon version of their pfp with a few cents. - The wallet. It's seamless, doesn't feel like crypto (not terrible UX 🤣) yet just by doing a few stuff in farcaster you may end up with a little bit of USDC or other crypto. For many users this may be their first crypto! Such a cool way to onboard new users to the sector. - My personal favorite: Channels. Most of the channels seem quite well organized. I am a regular in the "running" channel, where I post my runs and get $RUN tokens for it and then discuss all things from races to running form with other enthusiasts. Then there is photography, parenting, relationships, ethereum ... channels for everything. It's really an amazing feature that makes the whole social media experience make sense again.
Dislikes: - No reliable way to signup/use mini apps w/o mobile - Smaller audience. Crypto focus hinders growth & userbase diversity; repulsive to non-crypto folks - Credible exit but no credible post-exit alternative - Channels feel under-explored yet closest to "cozy web" ideal.
