The biggest illusion in DeFi is “low risk.” A protocol can run for years, attract billions, and be called battle-tested… but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. Longevity only means it hasn’t broken yet. Examples ----------- → Compound: governance bug mis-distributed $80M COMP → Curve: compiler bug drained $70M after 3 years live → GMX: 4 years as the top perp DEX, then a $42M exploit They were considered battle-tested. Integrated everywhere. Billions in TVL. Yet one bug, one upgrade, or one dependency was enough to break them. The lesson ------------ Longevity is not security. Battle-tested is not risk-free. Every protocol is one mistake away from breaking.
