Crypto Kidnapping! If you’ve been following the news, you might have seen this crazy story of someone being kidnapped and tortured in Soho, New York for weeks. Really wild! I recognised the name of one of the kidnapping suspects, “William Duplessie”, who surrendered himself in. Only met William and his father once in Monaco of early 2018, on a yacht, alongside with some of the top founders and investors of the major blockchain protocols and companies. Invited by my friend Tony Greenberg. You can see him in the black outfit with sunglasses next to his father. They pitched me then to invest in their VC Fund based out of Lugano. I passed on it after some due-diligence and pleased not to associate myself with them. Also, in the picture are my friends, Robert Kufner who I shared a cabin with on the boat, Garrett MacDonald, who I was roommates with in Berlin, and David Namdar, who cofounded Galaxy Digital now trading on Nasdaq at over $10B. Robert was an early bitcoin investor, who helped launch the crypto project IOTA which was one of the early crypto ICO successes of 2017, which grew up being a top 5 crypto asset, focused on the internet of things. He also took the first crypto firm(Advanced Blockchain) public on the stock exchange in Germany, whilst incubating top crypto project Peaq. His cofounder Florian sold blood to buy Bitcoin whilst working at McDonald’s in 2012 too. Garrett was one of the first Bitcoin miners in the world and passed on joining Coinbase as one of the first employees. He raised money on the forum BitcoinTalk to fund miners which may be the first “ICO” ever and distributed mining income. True pioneer! We organised a Afrikaburn camp together with our roommate Marek, who was the 3rd engineer at Ethereum.
