Ethereum and Solana have taught the world a lot, but I don't think people realize how absurd the situation has become.
These are blockchains that provide security and consensus through replicated execution. For a transaction to be added to the chain, every node must execute the same computation. If all nodes arrive at the same result, it's valid.
To do anything significant with these chains, software developers have to literally create new blockchains, AKA "app chains"/rollups/L2s/L3s. It's absurd when you think about it, but it's been normalized through some kind of Stockholm Syndrome. Who wants to maintain their own blockchain?
Proof-based verification is totally different, it does not require every node to re-execute the same computation. Each node just checks a proof, which takes milliseconds NO MATTER HOW BIG THE COMPUTATION.
It seems obvious to us that this extraordinary power should just be used to make a better Layer 1.
Why would you waste this elegant gift from God on band-aids for Ethereum and Solana?
