Introduction

What is Split Position?

Split Position lets you manage each perpetual futures entry as its own independent position. When enabled, every new open order creates a separate sub-position with its own position size, entry price, PnL, margin, and take-profit/stop-loss (TP/SL) - instead of being merged into one combined position. This is designed for traders who run multiple strategies on the same contract and want to track and manage each entry independently, without opening sub-accounts.

Key capabilities

  • Independent sub-positions: Each new open order creates a separate sub-position.

  • Per-position details: Each sub-position independently displays entry price, PnL and PnL% , position size, margin, mark price, and TP/SL.

  • Per-position TP/SL: Set take-profit and stop-loss on a single sub-position, with the trigger set by PnL%, PnL amount, or price change %. When triggered, only that sub-position is closed - others are unaffected.

  • Per-position closing: Market close an entire sub-position with one tap

  • Cross and isolated margin: Both margin modes are supported, in both hedge and one-way position modes.

  • Aggregated view retained: Your positions tab shows both a Aggregated and a Split sub-tab, so you can always see the combined view.

  • Position history: Closed sub-positions appear in Position History with open/close time, entry and exit price, closed size, and realized PnL and PnL%.

How to enable

  1. Go to the futures trading settings > preferences page on the OKX app or website and turn on the Split Position switch.

  2. Your account must have no open positions, no pending orders, and no TP/SL orders when turning the feature on and off. If anything remains open, you'll be prompted to close positions and cancel orders first.

  3. Once enabled, your positions tab will show Aggregated and Split sub-tabs, with Split displayed by default.

FAQ

  1. Does Split Position change how my margin or liquidation works?
No. Split Position is a display and management layer. Risk, margin, and liquidation are still calculated at the combined (aggregated) position level. This is why liquidation price and MMR% are not shown on individual sub-positions - you can view them in the Aggregated tab.

  2. Can I add to an existing sub-position?
No. Each new open order always creates a new sub-position. Adding to an existing sub-position is not supported in this version.

  3. How does TP/SL work on sub-positions?
TP/SL applies to the whole sub-position. You can set the trigger by PnL%, PnL amount, or price change %, with last price, mark price and index price shown for reference. When triggered, only that sub-position is closed.

  4. What happens if I place a close/reduce order from the order panel instead of from a sub-position?
A close order placed from the order entry panel can't be attributed to a specific sub-position, so the system allocates it to sub-positions according to default selection rules. To close a specific sub-position, use the close or TP/SL buttons on that sub-position directly.

  5. Why don't I see a liquidation price on my sub-positions?
Liquidation price and MMR% are calculated across your combined position, not per sub-position. Check the Aggregated tab for these figures.

  6. Why can't I turn Split Position on or off?
Both enabling and disabling require a clean account: no open positions, no pending orders, and no TP/SL orders anywhere in your account. If any exists, you'll see a prompt asking you to close positions and cancel orders first.

  7. What happens if I switch account modes after enabling Split Position?
Your Split Position setting is not automatically turned off. However, in Spot mode and Spot margin borrowing mode the Split Position entry and display are hidden, and the setting cannot be changed there. Switch back to a supported margin mode (Futures, Multi-currency, or Portfolio margin) to use it again.

  8. What should I expect during system maintenance or extreme market conditions?
During scheduled maintenance windows (typically 10–20 minutes), you may be temporarily unable to close positions, TP/SL orders may not trigger, and position data on the Split Positions tab may briefly be out of sync. If you see a System Upgrade notice on the trade page, switch to the Aggregated tab in the meantime. During periods of extreme market volatility, sub-position data may also lag by a few seconds before syncing.

  9. Which products are supported?
USDT-margined perpetual futures only. Spot, margin, delivery futures, and options are not supported.
