Launched in 2019, Mask Network is a decentralized Ethereum-based protocol that allows users to send cryptocurrencies, use decentralized applications (dApps), verify NFT avatars, shop at social marketplaces and enjoy greater privacy on traditional social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Mask Network serves as a bridge between Web2 and Web3, by building dApplets (decentralized applets — small decentralized apps that function within the scope of larger apps) on top of popular social media platforms. These dApplets allow users to enjoy the features and benefits of decentralization without having to leave the centralized social media platforms they are accustomed to.

Currently functioning as an open-source browser extension that allows you to enhance Web2 sites with Web3 features and integrations, Mask Network significantly reduces the barriers to entry to Web3 for many individuals.

The MASK token, which was released in February 2021, is the network token of Mask Network. It allows holders to govern the Mask Network protocol via MaskDAO. At the same time, MASK tokens are also used for dApplet development and rewarding network participants.
