Even though I stand to make no money from the Zcash pump, I still consider it one of the best developments to emerge in not just the crypto space, but in civilization altogether. Yes, there’s some element of griftiness here, with the alt-L1 promoters pushing yet another alt-L1 instead of supporting any of the Ethereum privacy L2 blockchains, all just to avoid contributing to Ethereum’s network effects. But privacy is so valuable, and it creates so many positive externalities, that my annoyance with that pales in comparison to how much of a welcome surprise genuine market demand for privacy is for me.
