Bitcoin just took its first serious step toward quantum resistance. StarkWare has successfully demonstrated what it calls the first quantum-resistant transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet. The transaction used Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB), a method designed to protect BTC from future quantum attacks without changing Bitcoin’s current consensus rules. Why does this matter? Bitcoin currently relies on cryptography that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could theoretically threaten in the future. QSB uses hash-based cryptography instead, creating another possible security path. But there is an important catch. This is not a permanent Bitcoin upgrade. The experimental transaction required direct submission to a miner because the format is not currently relayed by standard Bitcoin nodes. The computational cost is also far higher than a normal transaction. 1 So I wouldn't call this “Bitcoin is now quantum-proof.” It's better described as a proof that quantum-resistant spending can work on the existing network. And StarkWare isn't alone. Blockstream researchers have also proposed SHRINCS, another hash-based approach designed to protect Bitcoin against future quantum threats. This could become one of the most important blockchain security conversations of the next decade. Because the question isn't whether quantum computers can break Bitcoin today. They can't. this is monumental the first quantum secure transaction on Bitcoin mainnet if you hold any meaningful amount of bitcoin, you should be looking into this as your fail safe mechanism

BITCOIN JUST TOOK AN IMPORTANT STEP TOWARD QUANTUM SAFETY. StarkWare successfully moved $35 in BTC using a quantum-resistant signature. The test worked, but it cost several hundred dollars in compute. For now, this isn’t supported by Bitcoin’s normal network rules. Regular nodes wouldn’t relay it, so the transaction had to be sent directly to a mining pool. It also doesn’t protect the ~6.9M BTC already sitting in exposed addresses. Still, this is a useful proof of concept and a positive step toward making Bitcoin safer against future quantum threats.
