Tron is a decentralized content distribution platform allowing content creators to connect directly with their audience without any middlemen. Tron was launched in 2017 by Justin Sun, the current CEO of TRON.
The Tron platform aims to support creatives and content creators with its low-cost distribution and high scalability throughput. Apart from its content-sharing platform, the Tron network enables DApps and websites to be built on top of it. Moreover, Tron has its native ecosystem of DApps and DeFi applications such as BitTorrent, WinLink data oracle, and JUST network of DeFi apps, among others.
To incentivize participation in the network, Tron uses a content-rewards distribution mechanism, which essentially rewards creators for their work. The TRX coin is used to power this, along with staking and governance activities.
Tron is highly scalable and can process 10,000 transactions per second. To achieve such scalability, Tron uses a delegated proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. The Tron project is supported by partners such as Samsung, BitTorrent, Poloniex, Swisscom Blockchain, and Opera.
