When it broke below the $135 IPO price in July, shorts were aggressively adding positions, with about 185 million shares shorted, accounting for 29% of the float, involving roughly $25 billion in short bets. Later, the short interest even surged to 34% of the float. In mid-September, a large number of put options appeared, with over 9,600 put contracts concentrated at a $115 strike price, nearly 25% below the then closing price.
