Goldman Sachs Reveals Crypto Asset Holdings Structure: BTC and ETH Allocation Sizes Are Close, Breaking the Inherent Perception Caused by Market Cap Differences
📘 Wall Street Institutional Holdings Information
The latest 13F holdings filing reveals Goldman Sachs' total crypto asset allocation at $2.3 billion. A key point for the market to note: although BTC's market cap is much higher than ETH's, the investment bank's exposure allocation to the two major mainstream coins is basically on par.
This holdings structure sends a very critical signal:
Top Wall Street institutions are distinguishing the independent value of the two, no longer simply treating ETH as a copycat following BTC. Internally, institutions have formed two separate evaluation systems:
✅ $BTC: An alternative reserve asset hedging inflation and geopolitical risks, benchmarked as digital gold, suitable for conservative long-term capital allocation;
✅ $ETH: Positioned as on-chain financial infrastructure, betting on the long-term development dividends of real asset tokenization and stablecoin settlement, belonging to a growth-oriented allocation style.
However, contradictions objectively exist as well:
The allocation position accounts for only a very small proportion of Goldman Sachs' overall managed assets, representing that institutions remain cautious and will not make large-scale bets; in the short term, the market is still dominated by Federal Reserve liquidity, and institutional position structure is a medium- to long-term slow variable.
Mapping to market patterns:
When macro uncertainty is high and capital seeks stability, funds flow to BTC;
When overall market risk appetite warms and growth-style markets start, funds increase ETH deployment.
Short-term CPI and upcoming US tech earnings reports are the core catalysts for the market; narratives alone are unlikely to drive a one-sided market.
