What is the difference between Buy, Sell, Convert, and spot trading?

Buy lets you purchase supported crypto through the Buy flow using an available balance or supported payment method.

Sell exchanges supported crypto for an available cash currency or stablecoin using a quote. After completion, the proceeds are credited to your Trading account balance and can be checked in Portfolio. Sell doesn't support direct payouts to a bank account, card, or external payment provider, and there's no transaction fee.

Convert exchanges one eligible crypto asset for another using a quote.

Spot trading uses an order book and lets you choose an order type and price. Execution depends on the order you place and market liquidity.

FAQ

Why is my payment method unavailable for Buy?

A payment method may be unavailable because of your account market, verification status, selected crypto or cash currency, transaction amount, payment-channel availability, or current risk-control requirements.

Use the payment methods currently shown during checkout. You can also:

  • Check that the amount is within the displayed limits.

  • Try another available cash currency or crypto.

  • Complete any verification requested in the flow.

  • Select another payment method currently shown in your account.

Support cannot manually enable a payment method that is not available during checkout.

What are the minimum and maximum Buy limits?

The applicable minimum and maximum amounts are shown during checkout. Limits may vary by account market, verification status, crypto, cash currency, payment method, and current product rules.

Use the real-time limit displayed in your account rather than a fixed amount from an older article or screenshot.

What should I do if 3DS verification fails?

3DS verification is completed through your card issuer. If the verification fails:

  1. Check that the 3DS page or verification window wasn't blocked.

  2. Confirm that you entered the correct verification code or approved the request in your banking app.

  3. Return to Activity and check whether a Buy order was created.

  4. Avoid repeatedly submitting the payment, as this may create multiple temporary authorization holds.

  5. Try another payment method shown during checkout or contact your card issuer if verification continues to fail.

Why did my Buy order fail or get rejected?

Open Activity, select the Buy order, and review its status and any reason shown in the order details.

A failed checkout and a failed or rejected order are not always the same:

  • If no order was created, restart the Buy flow and review the available payment methods and limits.

  • If the order is Failed or Rejected, check the displayed reason and whether any card charge is a temporary authorization hold.

  • If you need an account-specific explanation, contact OKX Assistant with the order ID.

Why is my Buy order still pending?

A pending order is still being processed. Open Activity and select the order to check its latest status.

Do not create a duplicate order while the first order is pending. If the status doesn't update within the expected time shown in the order details, contact OKX Assistant with the order ID, order time, crypto, cash currency, amount, and payment method.

My card was charged, but I haven’t received my crypto. What should I do?

Open Activity, filter for Buy orders, and check the order status:

  • Completed: Check whether the crypto appears in your account. If it's still missing, contact support with the order ID.

  • Pending: Wait for the status to update before placing another order.

  • Failed or Cancelled: The card charge may be a temporary authorization hold. The release timing depends on your card issuer or bank.

  • No order found: Contact support with the payment time, amount, cash currency, card type, and relevant screenshots with sensitive information hidden.

Why is my Portfolio value lower than the amount I spent to buy crypto?

The value shown in Portfolio is the current estimated market value of the crypto you hold, not your original purchase amount. It may change after the order is completed because of market-price movement, the quoted price or applicable spread, FX conversion, or a payment fee shown in the order preview.

Open the order details to review the amount paid, crypto received, confirmed quote, and any listed fee.

What should I do if the crypto amount does not match the Buy quote I confirmed?

First, confirm that the order status is Completed. Compare the confirmed quote, crypto amount received, and any separately listed fee in the order details.

If the completed result does not match the quote you confirmed, contact OKX Assistant with the order ID, order time, crypto, cash currency, amount, and payment method.
