๐ก Right after my business trip to Dubai, I had an interview while getting an IV drip. I looked a bit tired, but I appreciate Professor Cho for leading the interview so smoothly. Thank you for always explaining our attempts with such care, like an essay. ๐
<Story: A Unique Experiment Aimed at the Era of IP and AI>
Web3 is a market where new technologies and narratives are always pouring in. However, the general public finds it difficult to understand, and most projects often lose direction behind flashy packaging.
In this flow, @StoryProtocol is interesting because its message is very intuitive. What Story is saying is simple: "Tokenize IP," "Create a data infrastructure for the AI era." These two keywords are easily understandable even for those who are not familiar with technical terms, and they are sufficiently persuasive to institutional investors.
Story is proving this narrative with results. Despite being in the early stages, Grayscale has selected Story as a 'Top Token' and has set up a trust. This is an opportunity that only a few major coins like Ripple, Bitensor, and Sui have enjoyed.
The founder, @storysylee, emphasized that "what institutional investors are interested in is not the technical advantages like TPS or VM of the chain, but an intuitive narrative and execution that anyone can understand." It is interesting that a clear vision and message, rather than complex technology, have led to institutional trust.
Story also differentiates itself in another aspect. While most altcoins struggle to defend their prices after listing, Story has put its financial strategy front and center from the beginning. Funds were raised led by a16z and a U.S. investment bank (IB), and they have pledged to execute a buyback within 90 days (by mid-November). Additionally, after an interview, they attracted significant attention by purchasing $2 million worth of IP in the market.
This is not a one-time event but a strategy to create a flywheel of "buyโIRโrefinancingโrepurchase." The founder explained, "Surviving in this cycle will ultimately be a team that utilizes institutional and public markets." This is a move to accumulate tokens while simultaneously securing market trust and liquidity.
The most notable aspect of the ecosystem expansion strategy is the killer app candidate, Poseidon (@psdnai). This project directly targets the biggest challenge of the AI era: the supply of high-quality data. For example, by providing cameras to cleaning workers to secure real-world data and registering it as IP on the blockchain. Contributors receive token rewards, and validators check the quality. Subsequently, AI companies like Tesla pay $120โ150 per hour to license the data, and the profits flow back into the ecosystem.
CEO Lee Seung-yoon stated, "The weapon for AI advancement is not the model but the data," indicating that Poseidon will fill that gap. Unlike the traditional method of mobilizing tens of thousands of people to manually collect data, it is noteworthy that large-scale expansion is possible using the DePIN model. The fact that the Poseidon team consists of robotics experts with backgrounds from Stanford and NASA is also emphasized as a strength.
In addition, @StoryProtocol aims to onboard music IP on a large scale, realizing the concept of 'IP Legoland.' Starting with IP worth hundreds of millions, such as Justin Bieber and BLACKPINK's music, the strategy is to tokenize OSMU IP that can be expanded into web novels, webtoons, movies, and games on the chain. Ultimately, the vision is to create an environment where anyone can assemble IP and participate in secondary and tertiary creations using AI tools.
There has also been a change in leadership. Co-founder Jason Zhao has moved on for new challenges, but this seems to be a natural transition as Story moves from the initial stage (0โ1) to the expansion stage (1โ100). CEO Lee Seung-yoon explained, "There are people strong at going from 0 to 1, and there comes a time when specialized personnel are needed to drive from 1 to 100."
In fact, with the joining of a CPO from Amazon Alexa and AI specialists, the organization has been further strengthened. The new AI business that Zhao is preparing is also expected to be integrated into the Story ecosystem, maintaining a collaborative structure.
During KBW, Story plans to hold the Origin Summit to unveil this vision. Major IP companies like SM, HYBE, Black Label, and Pinkfong, along with institutions like Morgan Stanley and Grayscale, are expected to participate in discussions about new collaborations at the intersection of IP, AI, and blockchain. It is anticipated to be a stage that demonstrates that Story is not just a crypto project but a platform that impacts actual industries and finance.
Ultimately, the future that Story aims for has two aspects. First, an IP Legoland where all IPs are tokenized and traded like stocks and bonds, allowing anyone to freely recreate. Second, a data infrastructure hub where AI companies can easily secure high-quality data. If these two pillars are realized, Story seems poised to become a key infrastructure in the Web3 market rather than just a simple coin.
