Vitalik had a great post today about the power of simple designs: "One of the best things about Bitcoin is how beautifully simple the protocol is" OCM Genesis is on-chain art designed around creating art that can last longer than any existing digital art, and simplicity was key to accomplishing this! In 2021, the OCM 10k collection was immutably created entirely on-chain on Ethereum, including all the metadata and all the images. The way we accomplished this is very nuanced and unless you are an on-chain expert, you may have missed it. Everything is on-chain and conforms to the widest used NFT standard at the time, ERC-721. There is no offchain reference and the images and metadata are on-chain using the standard "tokenId" smart contract call. This ensures that all market places and explorers automatically know how to read the on-chain art, and that many years in the future, the chance of the art being lost is as low as possible. (When OCM did this in 2021, this was almost unheard of, and since then we've seen on-chain projects follow in our footsteps 🔥) Even in the choice of image format, we deliberately used an image format that can be widely understood in the future. The art is in svg format, and we purposely used human readable elements so that the art could be recreated by someone even if they knew nothing about svg. Simply read the text and there are instructions for drawing the art, such as draw a circle at these coordinates, a square here, and color them this color, and create the OCM art by hand! Since 2021, the OCM Genesis art is even better preserved for eternity with our innovative (and simple!) OCM art on Bitcoin.
