Here’s a moment that changed me. The mental health struggles in this space have prompted a memory in my trading journey. When I was early to trading there was one day I had to decide whether I sell or hold, before going shopping (as there was no mobile trading). I decided to hold, but couldn’t resist watching the charts while I was out. I watched the market epically crash and I could do nothing about it. It was a paper loss in the low five figures, more money than I had ever lost in my life. I walked the shopping centre in a mental haze, cycling through the stages of grief. I looked at a TV, a jacket, a gadget, and thought, I could have had any of them if I had only made a different choice. Instead I bought nothing and felt sick. In that moment I realized, if I cannot stomach this loss, then how do I ever expect to stomach even bigger losses that will surely follow bigger wins.
