BREAKING: Filters work. They create economic risks for miners. Even the largest miner in the world.
If anyone ever tries to say filters don’t work again, they either don’t understand incentives or they are lying to you.
Pretty much everyone running Core is filtering sub 1 s/vb and that just caused a miner to stop putting that stuff in the chain.
This entirely vindicates what we've been saying for the last two years.
If mempools and blocks diverge, the narrative in Core was that mempools must change and that miners simply would not and the opposite just happened.
I don't want to overstate the case as this is some of the least lucrative spam available and it's some of the most widely filtered due to being the default in Core (for now - they've already nuked min TX relay for the next release).
Regardless, the mechanism by which a miner was encouraged to exclude spam - i.e spam filtration - worked exactly as we've been saying they do.
