Recently, we have detected fraudulent activities that use the Telegram communities to post links or other methods to impersonate the official "OKX-DeFi". OKX hopes users are aware of the security of your OKX accounts, do not scan any QR code on unofficial channels, and do not open any unknown URLs, do not log in to any unsafe websites, do not trust any suspicious phone calls, and do not transfer money to any untrusted address, so as to avoid leakage of account info and password, causing unnecessary loss of assets.
We have listed the common fraud situations as follows. Please strengthen your security awareness and fraud identification:
1. Fake crypto fraud - fake OKB
Core channels: Create fake Telegram, WeChat, QQ groups or draft fake announcements to defraud.
Fraud method: Under the guise of "Smart contracts income auto-return", "Profiting from simple arbitrage" and "Acquiring income according to some technologies to earn interests", induce users to transfer ETH to a wallet. Promise to transfer OKB back to users in proportion. Actually, the crypto is a fake "OKB" (The OKB not officially launched by OKX) to defraud users' assets. Once you transfer to the scam address, you will lose your assets.
Security alert: OKX will not require you to transfer assets such as buying or selling/withdrawing/transferring crypto. Please join groups through OKX official channels. The official OKX will not add you and invite you to the group proactively. Please do not trust any "official" invitations. For any business information, please refer to the announcements on OKX official website. Please strengthen your security awareness and fraud identification.
2.Impersonating an official OKX/public security person
Core channels: Contact you in the name of OKX staff (customer service/security center), or in the name of the Gov Public Security, etc., on the grounds that your account has money laundering risks such as dirty money/crypto, and ask you to cooperate with security investigations to eliminate account risks/freezes. They're using your panic to defraud your account information or induce you to withdraw or transfer assets.
Fraud method 1: Add your WeChat/QQ or other social media accounts, ask for your email account to send you a URL/QR code, so that you open the link or scan the code to fill out the account information by log into a fake OKX or bank account, etc., then complete hacking.
Fraud method 2: Make you download a meeting software/App, ask you to turn on screen sharing, or remotely operate your mobile phone. When you are operating, frauds will steal your account information and wallet seed phrases through the shared screen. After you transfer the assets to the accounts or wallets they want, the scammer will log in to your account or wallet and steal your assets.
Fraud method 3: Teach you how to buy and sell crypto, and make you withdraw crypto to the so-called "Safe account" or address. Or threaten you to transfer money to a designated bank card for unfreezing your account.
Fraud method 4: By simulating official OKX SMS messages or emails. They tell you to withdraw money to addresses such as the so-called "Currency exchange business" or "Secure account".
Security alert: Any OKX staff or staff from judicial and public security will NOT ask you for any passwords or verification codes information on the grounds that your account has money laundering risks, and will not let you download and use third-party screen sharing software. You will NOT be required to buy and sell/withdraw/transfer crypto. For any business information, please refer to the announcements on OKX official website. Please strengthen your security awareness and fraud identification.
3. Investment fraud
Core channels: Under the guise of official cooperation with OKX, then commit fraud.
Fraud steps:
- Reach you: Add your WeChat, QQ, Telegram, etc. through social platforms to add you into their groups.
- Gain trust: Gain trust by claiming cooperation with large platforms and impersonating official staff, actually no authorization.
- High-income lure: Induce in the form of "Profiting from simple arbitrage", "High rebates", "Trade masters following", "Staking crypto to earn interest", etc., also there are continuously profiting records posted by other members in the group.
- Common investment: Including new crypto investment (actually is a copycat coin, not listed on other mainstream exchanges), gambling, pyramid scheme crypto, capital pool, deposit to earn, and other investments. Once the crypto is withdrawn, your assets will be lost.
Security alert: Anyone who claims to be a partner of OKX without authorization or impersonates to be an official staff of OKX for investment promotion is considered fraud. Be aware of various forms of fraud such as investment and gambling.
4. Impersonating a friend to scam
Core channels: Impersonate or steal a friend's social media account to gain trust, then commit fraud.
Fraud method: borrow money from you for reasons such as loan and turnover, and refuse to confirm the identity through video or voice. Once you transfer assets, you get defrauded.
Security alert: When withdrawing crypto to a friend's address, please confirm this is his/her personal operations.
5. Off-platform transaction fraud
Core channels: Gain trust through online dating, investment mentor, etc., then commit fraud.
Fraud Method 1: No pay for over-the-counter transactions. For off-platform transactions, both sides agree that crypto will be paid first. After you transfer the crypto, the buyer does not pay money.
Fraud method 2: No crypto transferred for over-the-counter transactions. For off-platform transactions, both sides agree that the money will be paid first. After you pay the money, the seller does not transfer the crypto.
Fraud method 3: Over-the-counter transactions with fake crypto. For off-platform transactions, both sides agree to pay the money first. After you pay the money, the seller transfers you fake USDT (USDT not officially issued by Tether).
Fraud method 4: Entrusted to sell fake crypto. In the early stage, due to the transaction limit and other reasons, the small amount top-up is entrusted to you to sell on the platform. After defrauding a large number of funds, top-up you with fake USDT (not officially issued by Tether).
Security alert: Do not transfer any of your OKX assets outside the OKX platform.
6. Mass emails fraud
Core channels: Send fake OKX official emails.
Fraud method: Frauds impersonate the OKX customer services, create phishing websites and post false information, through SMS messages, emails, etc., claiming “Account upgrade”, “Migration”, “Trigger risk control”, “Funds are at risk”, etc. The fake URL is sent to you and induce you to open it, make you log in to the account and enter the fund password, or induce the user to scan the QR code. Once the account passwords or fund passwords and other information are leaked, the digital assets in your account will be stolen.
Security alert: Do not open any links on unknown websites. Do not enter your account passwords and personal information on the unofficial OKX websites or unofficial apps to avoid assets being stolen by phishing websites or network Trojans.
If you find a website, phone number, email, etc. that are advertised as OKX official, you can select the official verification to check the authenticity.
