About EIP8363Debate
EIP-8363 remains a draft and has not been approved for a future Ethereum upgrade. The proposal would gradually increase the burn of consensus-layer rewards as ETH staking grows, fully offsetting issuance when staking approaches 50% of total ETH supply. Supporters say it could reduce ETH dilution and discourage excessive staking, while critics warn lower staking yields could raise validator costs, discourage independent validators, and weaken network decentralization.

EIP-8363 is still a draft and has not been approved for any future Ethereum upgrade. It proposes increasing the burn of consensus-layer rewards as staking expands, with issuance fully offset when staking approaches 50% of ETH supply.
Lower dilution could benefit holders and limit excessive staking concentration. The tradeoff is that reduced yields may raise validator economics pressure, particularly for independent operators, potentially weakening decentralization.
Not financial advice.

What are everyone's thoughts on EIP-8361?
I've listened to @drakefjustin since pre-genesis.
I had all of my ETH staked in validators before it could be withdrawn and trusted the process.
I'm struggling to see the incentive for solo-stakers here. For a lot of us its a very significant portion of net worth or 100%.
It is a real worry that Ethereum simply becomes another centralised sequencer type chain with the number of solo-stakers dwindling to zero.#EarningsRealityCheck #SpaceXBeatEstimates #AMDBeatsButDrops

Opposition to this eip seems to be pretty broad, including from:
1. ppl worried about who'll run validators when yields tend to 0%
2. ppl who don't want staking yield to go down
3. ppl who don't want ETH's monetary policy to change ever again, and worry that changing it at all invites future changes
4. ppl who want stability and growth in general, and are against contentious eips
I'm in groups 1/3/4.
In theory, I'm pro-issuance reduction if the yield doesn't drop all the way to 0%. In practice, this eip is way too contentious. I'd rather us focus on growth.
**🚨 JUST IN: Ethereum researchers propose ZERO validator rewards if 50% of all $ETH gets staked**
EIP-8363 (Tapered Issuance Burn) is on the table.
Six researchers (including Ethereum Foundation’s Justin Drake) want to gradually burn a rising share of newly created ETH rewards as more ETH is staked.
- Today: ~34% of supply is staked
- At ~50% (around 60.25 million ETH): net issuance hits **zero**
Goal: Stop the endless incentive to stake more and more ETH, protect decentralization, and make $ETH
scarcer long-term.
Critics are already warning:
This could squeeze solo stakers and push even more power toward big operators and exchanges.
Big change to Ethereum’s monetary policy. Still just a draft — far from confirmed.
What do you think, frens?
Good for ETH long-term… or a risk to decentralization?

“Whatever change you make now, you’re gonna have to revisit to make a big change later, so if there’s no urgent problem that needs to be solved, why would you not wait until then. Any change we make now is going to be short lived.” Yes, @lex_node 🤝
I don’t fault the EIP authors for thinking this far ahead but the EIP is completely tone deaf. We as an Ethereum community cannot afford to make such major changes to issuance to solve a problem that’s not here yet, and may never arrive, when the consequences for changing issuance are immense (loss of confidence for $ETH holders, stakers and DeFi builders, and confusion over incentives for stakers and $ETH investors).
I am grateful for the intense unified reaction against this EIP. I appreciate anyone trying to champion an EIP for what they think will benefit Ethereum but I just disagree with this draft and the timing.
Maybe a modified approach in the distant future but dear god, not now.
Now back to Ethereum winning 😘
