Harmony is a blockchain optimized for speed and security on which decentralized applications can be deployed. The network uses a consensus mechanism known as Effective Proof-of-Stake, and its mainnet is split into four shards, or partitions, each with 1,000 nodes. This architecture enables nodes to reach consensus within two seconds, ensuring fast transaction settlement. Harmony's native cryptocurrency is called ONE, and it is used to incentivize honest transaction validation, pay for transaction fees and in the network's governance.
Harmony was founded in 2017 by former Apple engineer Stephen Tse. The project has attracted funding from notable crypto investors, including Digital Asset Capital Management, Hashkey and Consensus Capital Holdings.
